Welcome to Iowa Masters Swimming!

We are competitive, recreational and fitness swimmers, ages 18 and over. We swim for life! Our national organization, United States Masters Swimming is an organization of over 40,000 men and women, offering fitness and competitive opportunities to all.

What is Masters Swimming?

Founded in 1970, Masters Swimming is part of United States Aquatic Sports (USAS), the governing body for amateur swimming in the United States. Swimmers age 18 and older are welcome to join and participate at whatever level they choose in this "lifetime sport." Masters range in ability from those just learning to swim to former collegiate and Olympic swimmers. There is a full schedule of local, national, and international swimming events for those Masters interested in competing. Some Masters choose not to compete, but join to enjoy the healthful benefits of swimming and to meet other active adults.

Training plateaus happen, but Chris Ritter has solutions.

(Posted: 2014.04.03)

When you train and swim long enough, usually more than a month, at times you will see your performance improvements decline or stop altogether. Masters Swimming secrets for the multisport athlete.

(Posted: 2014.04.03)

Every triathlete knows how important it is to have the right shoes, the right bike, and the right nutrition plan. We buy power meters and carbon fiber water bottle cages, and we practice for hours to shave every possible second off our transitions. But many triathletes are missing a great opportunity to find extra speed.

Synopsis:

More than 50 years after landmark civil rights decisions opened schools and voting booths, fewer than 1% of competitive swimmers in the U.S. are black and Latino. Parting the Waters is the story of African-American championship swimmers Maritza Correia and Cullen Jones, and the young black and Latino swimmers coming up behind them - as they challenge old myths, fears, and stereotypes to break down the last vestiges of segregation.
